In my hometown there was a big hall where they sold live stock once a week. They also used it for sports and concerts. Then a disease affecting live stock broke out. The market stopped and the last years of the Groenoordhallen there were big flea markets. That’s where I bought a few sheets of stamps from Czechoslovakia. I worked on it with stamps and blockprint. Just for fun.

Compilation of my well organised studio in Schakenbosch near my hometown Leiden in The Netherlands. Schakenbosch used to be a mental hospital.

Assemblage. 40x20x10cm. Title is Schakenbosch. “Schaken” means chess in Dutch and “bosch” is the old Dutch spelling for wood. Schakenbosch is the name for the ground where my studio (a former mental hospital) is situated.
Made in a fifties wooden box from a carpenter studio, inlay of scrapwood from De Zaanstreek, pieces of wood and old furniture and chess pieces.

Last one made on my trip through Romania, Ukraine and Moldova. Simple one but I hope full of expression. Made in the SirGara de Nord Hotel in Bucharest. 14x20cm.

Played around with the format and composition. Chose for a slighty smaller collage. Instead of 19x27cm I used 14x20cm. That is the inner side without the cardboard frame.

I thought I had it all figured out. All the images were spread out. Part of a building from Lvov from a 1958 book, pieces from a few Russian books for children, fish from an aquarium book and a few from a cook book. Afterall I needed a few hectic hours. 19x27cm.
